With the Twenty20, cricket at the crossroads
Since 2003,
the Twenty20, a shorter and more publicized form of traditional cricket, has
saved this British sport from its torpor. And now risks to cause his loss.
South
African Hashim Amla faces Zimbabwe on September 20 in Sri Lanka at the Twenty20
World Cup Venue of PSL 2018.
English
traditions are not what they used to be. At least on the cricket grounds, the
second most followed sport in the world after football . Since 2003, this game
quintessential "British way of life" - which, according to the former
president of the French Federation Didier Marchois, was invented in northern
France in the XIII th century - took a decisive turn from the appearance of the
Twenty20, a variant faster than the traditional form, and whose World Cup takes
place from September 16 to October 8 in Sri Lanka .
A classic
cricket match, called "series cricket" , usually takes place over
several days, during which the drummers of each team must run as many
"runs" as possible to score the maximum points. When the 11 drummers
of the opposing team are eliminated, it is the turn of the team that started to
beat in turn. In "T20", each team has a single round of twenty rounds
of throws to score , and a match lasts about three hours. That's little more
than a football match, which lasts between 105 and 145 minutes, half-time included.
No more ceremonial "tea-time" , ""drink-time" and long
afternoons spent in the stands under the sun, a Pim's or a beer in hand. Place
to the show and the suspense.
